“We all change when you think about it. We're all different all through our lives. And that's okay, that's good. You've got to keeping moving. As long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this, not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me.” I came up with this idea shortly before the premiere of the Series 8 and the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi. I wanted to honor all the regenerations in one painting. It's one of my largest - 48" x 24". The concept of a regenerating lead character is what makes Doctor Who so special. I painted this scene after watching the Deep Breath, the first episode for Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor in Doctor Who's 8th series. The Scene came by surprise and definitely had me in tears, which isn't entirely difficult. I was very attached to Matt Smith's 11th Doctor and this scene made for a great transition - as the 11th Doctor isn't just asking Clara to help the next Doctor, but the audience. This is one of my biggest paintings. I wanted a painting that looked into the Tardis. Initially, I wanted the Doctor to have his hand out-stretched, beckoning me to join him. But I wondered too much if I was worthy of such adventures. I have struggled with social anxieties a lot and have found it too easy to retreat into myself (and into shows like this). So instead, I had the Doctor look as though he was considering me - Are you ready to follow the Mad Man in the box? Are you willing to conquer the real world? Some day.
