Description: The Kentucky Thoroughblades played in the American Hockey League at Rupp Arena in Lexington from 1996 to 2001 as an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. The Thoroughblades faced off against the Carolina Monarchs, Baltimore Bandits, Binghamton Rangers, Hershey Bears, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch, Providence Bruins, Albany River Rats, Louisville Panthers, Philadelphia Phantoms, Norfolk Admirals, Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, Houston Aeros and more.

Description: The Kentucky Colonels were a member of the American Basketball Association for all of the league's nine years. The name is derived from the historic Kentucky colonels, an honorary title, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Colonels won the most games and had the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the league's history, but the team did not join the NBA in the 1976 ABA–NBA merger. The downtown Louisville Convention Center (now known as The Gardens) was the Colonels' original venue for the first three seasons before moving to Freedom Hall. The Colonels were also the only major league franchise in Kentucky since the Louisville Breckenridges left the National Football League in 1923.
