This image depicts bright blue newly formed stars that are blowing a cavity in the center of a fascinating star-forming region known as N90.

NGC 1792 is a spiral galaxy located in the southern Columba constellation. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop on October 4, 1826. This galaxy is located at a distance of about 36.4 million light-years and is receding from the Milky Way with a heliocentric radial velocity of 1,208 km/s.

Picture taken with refractror telescope (800mm focal length), astronomy scientific camera, RGB and H-alpha narrowband filters. Total exposure time: 10,5 hours.

Another picture especially (but not only) for connoisseurs: reflection nebula NGC 1333 in the constellation Perseus, surrounded by dark dust. It is approximately 750-1000 (depends on source) light years away from Earth. This nebula is one of the closest to Earth areas of the formation of new stars, rich in young stars. In the initial stage of life young stars are not visible because they are obscured by dust. Picture taken with newton telescope (750mm focal length) & astronomy monochrome camera.

Starbirth region NGC 602, Hubble Space Telescope image. A cluster of bright, newly formed stars (blue) are blowing a cavity in the centre of a nebula (gas and dust), which is glowing under the impact of the stellar radiation. This starbirth region is 196,000 light years from Earth, in the Small Magellanic Cloud, in the constellation Tucana. This image was obtained with Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys instrument. The results were published in January 2007.

Rosette nebula (NGC 2237), optical image. This nebula is an emission nebula, known as the Rosette nebula because of its round, flower-like shape. Emission nebulae are clouds of gas and dust that are ionised by radiation from hot stars within them, causing them to glow. At the heart of the nebula (centre) is the cluster of young stars (NGC 2244) responsible for this ionisation. The strong stellar wind from these stars has cleared a hole around them. The whole Rosette nebula measures around 50 light years across; it lies approximately 4500 light years away in the constellation Monoceros.

This deep space image is dedicated especially (but not only) for connoisseurs: galaxy NGC 7331 (on the left) located approx. 50 million light years away from Earth, and Stephan's Quintet on the right (Hickson 92) located approx. 210-340 million light years (depend on source) away from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. Starbirth region NGC 3324. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the edge of a nebula in the starbirth region NGC 3324. This is a region where nebulae (dust and gas clouds) glow under the impact of radiation from newly formed stars. The colours indicate three chemical elements: red shows emission from sulphur, green from hydrogen, and blue from oxygen. NGC 3324 is located in the constellation of Carina and is around 7200 light years from Earth. The area seen here is around 13.4 light years across. This image was obtained in 2006 and 2008, using HST's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) and the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).

Spiral galaxy NGC 3521. This image was obtained in visible and near-infrared light. NGC 3521, which is 50,000 light years across, is 35 million light years from Earth in the constellation of Leo. The data for this image was obtained using the FORS1 (focal reducer and low dispersion spectrograph) instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The VLT is an array of telescopes where the data is combined using interferometry to produce high-resolution images. The VLT is located at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. Here, visible light is blue and green, and infrared light is red. Image published in August 2011.
