Tell us a little about yourself. (Where you're from, how you got into the realm of art, etc.)
Hello! My name is Callie Garp, and I am the artist behind Fabulously Feminist: Art For Eco & Social Justice. After attaining my masters degree in Fine Art, I knew I wanted to create meaningful work that was accessible. My social justice-themed illustrations incorporate my passion for feminism and gender studies with my love of creative expression and problem-solving.
What themes do you uncover in your work and what inspires you to create them?
As a queer, fat, woman artist, I want to create work that reflects who I am and the struggles I experience in the world. My belief in intersectional feminism also drives me to create work that speaks to people struggling with injustice and marginalization. My hope is that someone will experience my work and feel a tiny bit better, a little more seen.
What's your favorite way to wind down or practice self care?
Gardening is my absolute go-to when it comes to self care. It's the perfect physical activity that connects me to nature and gets me out of my own anxious mind. I love working out in my garden, focusing on all my senses. When I can't get outside, in the winter or in bad weather, I watch lots of gardening videos on youtube and invest in houseplants.
