Elephant Hawk Moth T Shirt

Part of a series of Alphabet illustrations originally done for the Manx Gaelic language.

Wanted to give this representation some movement although these little critters are quite static. Spending time out in the field is giving me more awareness of how things work. Bit by bit I'm piecing things together which might have been elemental or rather fundamental at University level ~ but consolidates much better whilst out and about... I stumbled upon this rather large caterpillar... of which I've not seen the likes of anything bigger on my travels! Upon the stem of Willow-herb this caterpillar is harmless and eats its fill until it goes to ground and pupates over winter - to produce the beautiful Elephant Hawk Moth in spring.
