Close up of an African Zebra taken at Buenos Aires Zoo. Probably one of the most interactive and best kept zoos I have ever visited. Animals are looked after quite well, and are being raised in captivity to save them from extinction. The zoo allows a percentage of their profits for conservation of the Argentinian wildlife. While I'm not sure I agree with animals being caged for any reason, it is nice to know that this zoo is here for many reasons, including conservation. Drawn in 2b pencil at Napier University in 2008 in a building that no longer exists. A former Library at the old campus building in Sighthill Edinburgh was used as the Art studio. Open roof windows meant the great space had plenty of natural light and I undertook this drawing in two afternoons of a Rubber plant partly starved of water! I have added digital colour to the pencil and as the original is A2 in size I scanned in sections resulting in a fair bit of banding! I've left the banding in because I didn't want to alter the pencil shading. The result is a rough approximation of the original, hope you like!!

I made this gem while I was studying for an exam in my ornithology course when I was studying for my bachelors in conservation biology. Use this to educate yourself or other people- or just buy it because it's neat!
