St Mark's Campanile, the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, is located in a corner of St Mark's square and is a recognizable symbol of the city. The tower is 98.6 meters tall, and is capped by a pyramidal spire, at the top of which sits a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel. The campanile reached its present form in 1514. As it stands today, however, the tower is a reconstruction, completed in 1912 after the collapse of 1902. The Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale di Venezia) was the residence of the Doge of Venice. Blue skies at the Campanile, Venice

Looking over the waters of the Venetian Lagoon to the Campanile (bell tower) in St Mark's Square, Venice. It is late afternoon and the skies are stormy, allowing the late sunlight to illuminate the tower. The Camapanile as we see it now is a reconstruction finished in 1912 as the original building, completed in 1514, collapsed in 1902. It's original purpose was as a watch tower and after the belfry was added, the bells regulated the life oif the city.

The bell tower, or belfry on Abercorn Church near South Queensferry, Scotland. A free standing bell tower may be referred to by its Italian name, campanile. Note that in this case, there is only one bell and it is rung from outside the church. Abercorn Parish Church is a remarkable place. But even though a small part of it can be dated back to the 1100s, what you can see today is only part of the story. There are clues to an even longer history in the collection of stones on view in the Abercorn Museum, just inside the churchyard gates. St Mark's Campanile (Campanile di San Marco in Italian) is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy, located in the Piazza San Marco. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The tower is 98.6 metres (323 ft) tall, and stands alone in a corner of St Mark's Square, near the front of the basilica. It has a simple form, the bulk of which is a fluted brick square shaft, 12 metres (39 ft) wide on each side and 50 metres (160 ft) tall, above which is a loggia surrounding the belfry, housing five bells. It is more commonly known as The Campanile due to its resemblance to the Campanile di San Marco in Venice, and serves as UC Berkeley's most recognizable symbol. The architecture of Santorini is predominantly low lying cubical houses made of local stone and whitewashed or limewashed with various volcanic ashes used as colours. Many houses have rooms carved into the rock which helps with insulation in both summer and winter.
