Ouimet enlisted the help of Gossage from find just the right shanties for the game. As you sail around the Caribbean on your ship called the Jackdaw, your crew sings to pass the time. That "crew" consists of four classically trained singers: Nils Brown, Sean Dagher, Michiel Schrey and Clayton Kennedy. The quartet sang multiple takes to capture the atmosphere of working men singing on a ship.

Sea shanties are thought to have developed from naval work songs sung by the British and French navies. My favourites are the ones that go In the windy old weather, stormy old weather or From Liverpool to ‘Frisco a-rovin’ I went or High-O! Come roll me over or We are outward bound for Mobile town With a heave-o, haul! or Weigh-hay and up she rises. And so much more

Shanties are tunes sung by Edward's crew while sailing. Billy Riley, Bully In, The Alley, Captain Kidd, Cheerly Man, Derby Ram are the main songs while riding the high seas. Randy Dandy Oh: A Great sing-a-long but also has such a sailor-y theme to it. It’s both positive in theme, but has quite a heavy tone to it, which is quite common in Shanties.

Sea Shanties create a sense of belonging, I find, because you just hear them on your ship. They sound like real men, too, who are having fun on their ship. Sea shanties are working songs commonly sung aboard ships by sailors. They were especially common among navy men and pirates. The shanty consisted of two parts, the chant and the chorus. Old Billy Riley, oh, Old Billy Riley! We are outward bound for Mobile town. Two men to man the wheel. Come all you bold sailor lads, and listen to me song.

The term "sea shanty" as a naval work song did not develop until the early 19th century, where they were used aboard American merchant vessels.
