Antaeus was an American literary quarterly founded by Daniel Halpern and Paul Bowles and edited by Daniel Halpern. The magazine existed between 1970 and 1994. It was founded and published in Tangier, Morocco, but operations were shifted to New York City in the mid-1980s.[1] The first number appeared in the summer of 1970, the final issue (#75/76) in 1994. Beginning with the third issue, the magazine bore the imprint of the Ecco Press, which eventually became established as a book publisher. A small number of limited editions were also issued in conjunction with the magazine under the imprint of Antaeus Editions.

We were on the road in Cambodia from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap; driving all day at about 60 kph. It was slow with there being so many slow, amazingly overladen vehicles on the road. It was late in the afternoon, almost dusk, when we encountered this small truck carrying what I must assume are farm workers at the end their day. I've looked at this image many times, but each time that I do, I seem to count more heads. I think that there were 14 people travelling on the back, plus probably more in the cab. They appear to be sitting on top of what might have been harvested, but just what that might be I'm not sure. It really does look like the end of a hard day's work, which is what I feel makes this such a remarkably interesting image. I hope...
