St Paul Parish Interior Charlottetown PEI by Debra Martz This historical Anglican church was constructed in 1896, marking the third building in the same location. The moment you step into the entrance of the church, you notice the balanced proportions of every part of the structure, complemented by the beautiful stained glass memorial windows. The wooden ribbed ceiling, stained in a shade of mahogany, enhances the atmosphere of the interior. Although not a large church (it can accommodate around 450 people), its architecture creates a sense of openness. The chancel is designed in such a way that the sounds produced by the organ, singers, and speakers reverberate throughout the entire church. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved

St Pauls Parish Charlottetown PEI by Debra Martz This historical anglican church was constructed in 1896, marking the third building on the same location. The initial structure was built in 1769, making this parish the oldest on the Island. The church has a sturdy exterior composed of large sandstone blocks. And just look at how green things are. We were here in October, a few days before Canada's Thanksgiving, to see the colorful fall foliage. But, nature has its own time schedule! The parish church of St Lawrence at Hungerford in Berkshire, England. The church stands slightly to the west of the town alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal. It was rebuilt in 1814 in the Regency Gothic style and was faced with Bath stone which was brought along the canal. A little later, in mid-Victorian times it was further renovated. The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to link Bristol with London via Reading. Abandoned in the early 1900s, it was renovated and reopened in 1990.

Kenmore Village, a beautiful little town in the Breadalbane region of Highland Perthshire (Breadalbane means “Uplands of Scotland” in Gaelic) guarding the east of Loch Tay, itself dominated by the Kenmore Hotel and the impressive cruciform church housed in the square. The church, which occupies a prominent position on a promontory at the east end of the Loch was built in 1760. It was possibly designed by William Baker, but was remodelled to its present form in 1870. Vintage Design Of Basketball Player

The church of St Mary the Virgin on the edge of the village of Aldworth in West Berkshire. Parts of it date back to c.1200. Inside are the 'Aldworth Giants' - effigies on the tombs of the De La Beche family dating from medieval times. They are supposedly life size - but some of the knights are over 7ft! Many of these were damaged by Parliamentary troops during the Civil War. The village of Aldworth sits above the Thames Valley on the Berkshire Downs. The image is finished as a pastel painting.

Torphichen Preceptory in the village of Torphichen, West Lothian, Scotland is an unusual remnant of a little known corner of Scottish history. It comprises the tower and the two transepts of the church associated with the Preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St John of Jerusalem. The Order maintained just two such establishments in Britain, the other being in London. Torphichen is therefore the sole Scottish link with an Order whose name resonates through history: from its formation in the Crusades to its occupation of Malta in the face of Turkish siege in 1565, and beyond.

Holy Trinity Church, the parish church of Cookham in the north-east corner of Berkshire, England on the banks of the River Thames. Here it is viewed across the churchyard on a February afternoon with snowdrops scattered between the tombstones, The church dates from the C12th with additions added during the C13th. Sir Stanley Spencer, the renowned artist (1891-1959) who lived in the village, set many of his paintings in the locality, this churchyard being the setting of 'The Resurrection' (1924-7). Blairgowrie Old Parish Kirk on the Hill of Blair. Blairgowrie and Rattray (Blàr Ghobharaidh and Raitear in Gaelic, Blairgowrie – likely Scottish Gaelic Blàr Ghobharaidh and Rattray – possibly from an English language cognate of Scottish Gaelic ràth, meaning fortress + a Pictish term cognate with Welsh tref, meaning settlement) is a twin burgh in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Amongst locals, the town is colloquially known simply as “Blair”. The second largest town in Perth & Kinross this twin burgh lies in the Strathmore Valley and straddles the River Ericht, which flows into the River Isla and then the River Tay. Rattray is on the east bank and Blairgowrie is on the west. The town expanded greatly in the 19th century.

Kirknewton & East Calder Parish Church (KNEC) serves the communities of Kirknewton and East Calder, along with their outlying areas, in the West Lothian presbytery of the Church of Scotland. History 1146 - Kirknewton Church was founded and dedicated to St. Cuthbert 1148 - A church was similarly founded and dedicated in East Calder. Its ruin can be seen in the old graveyard. For the next 500 years, Kirknewton and East Calder were separate parishes 1750 - The present Church building (not shown here_) was opened in Kirknewton and served both Kirknewton and East Calder 1776 - A United Presbyterian Church was formed in East Calder. This subsequently became a United Free Church, and its building is the present church hall (not shown here_) ...

A vintage style black and white image developed from my original phoyograph of the parish church of St Mary the Virgin at Ipsden in Oxfordshire. This picturesque old church stands on the southern edge of the Chiltern Hills overlooking the Thames Valley and is surrounded by farmland. Originally a small Saxon chapel, it was enlarged in the 12th century with stones from a nearby church which had fallen into disrepair.

This is the rural Church and where I was married.

King David I of Scotland granted a charter for the establishment of the church in 1138. The church was built on the site of an older church and was consecrated in 1242. Following a fire in 1424, most of the present building dates from the mid 15th century, with extensive restorations in the 19th century. Parts of the Church of St Michael were brought into use as they were completed, and the church was completed in 1540. Built immediately to the south of Linlithgow Palace, the church was much favoured as a place of worship by Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary, Queen of Scots, was born in Linlithgow Palace on 8 December 1542 and was baptised in St Michael’s Church.

Looking across the churchyard to the Church of St Thomas of Canterbury at Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. The buildings of this Grade 1 listed church date from the C12th but have, of course, undergonr periods of restoration. Here we are looking at the east end and the apsidal chancel. Inside, the Rood Screen is made of timber from HMS Thunderer, one of Nelson's ships at Trafalgar.
