Pair of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets, Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus, perching together. Habitat is woodlands of Eastern Australia. They seem to favour open, lightly timbered areas, but may be seen in melaleuca thickets when the trees are flowering. The scaly-breasted lorikeet is usually seen in small flocks, flying overhead, or feeding among the outermost branches of flowering trees. They frequent most timbered areas and are often seen in gardens and parklands – even in large cities. Canon 6D, zoom lens. (Featured in Top Shelf Wildlife.)

Not so long ago there was concern for the future of the scaly breasted lorikeet, but they seem to be back in good numbers these days. This shot was taken by Lake Baroon, Maleny, where I often take my students at the end of a workshop.

Scaly-breasted Munias were first brought to Honolulu by William Hillebrand in 1866 after trip to China,Calcutta and Java

T.rex was a massive animal, measuring around 40 feet in length and roughly 12 feet in height, weighing in at around 6 to 9 tons. It had teeth as big or bigger than most bananas with a bite force equal to around 8,000 lbs of force. When it bit into it’s prey it would often crush bone. Though it had relatively small arms for it’s stature, scientists have estimated that each arm was capable of 3.5 times the strength of a human arm of the same length, they were heavily muscled and had a limited range of movement, which some think may have aided the animal in holding on to prey or during mating.
