At first glance, it's a simple expression of love for our ancestral homeland, Africa. Oh, but it gets so much deeper. The decorative "heart" is an ancient Adinkra symbol (from Ghana, West Africa) called "Sankofa". Sankofa translates to "go back and fetch it". Sankofa reminds us to reach back to our past and use our vast ocean of ancestral experiences, culture, and wisdom in order to move forward and shape our future.

No matter where we are born, Africa resides in us. Our mother land is in the way we walk, talk, worship, cook, eat, sing,.....in ways that we don't even notice. There may be generations of oppression and an ocean between us, but we are still and always will be connected to our Ancestral homeland, Mama Africa.
