A New Era Begins

Just a few of a thousand things to like about the great city of Cleveland, Ohio.

Founded in 1911 as Electric Autolite in Toledo, Ohio, the company produced generators to power early day buggy lamps. In 1927, they acquired an automotive battery manufacturer, and in 1935, Electric Autolite decided they should get into the business of manufacturing spark plugs. In 1936 the first spark plug was produced at their Fostoria, Ohio plant. Electric Autolite's products were expanded further to include starter motors, ignition systems, and wire and cable products. With a full range of automotive electrical goods in their stables, Electric Autolite began securing supply contracts with leading car manufacturers, providing their products as OEM installations, and allowing Electric Autolite to move into a phase of explosive growth.

October 26,1966 Salem Mall in Trotwood, Ohio was Dayton's first and only all enclosed shopping center. This $10 million dollar development opened with 52 stores in operation and a Theater and the Hot Shoppes restaurant following a few weeks later. Tropical was definitely the theme in the four arcades located in the central court. This pioneer was ultimately demolished in 2006 with only the Sears building left to remain standing.

The Youngstown Patricians were a semi-professional football team based in Youngstown, Ohio.[1] In the 1910s, the team briefly held the professional football championship and established itself as a fierce rival of more experienced clubs around the country, some of which later formed the core of the National Football League.[2] The Patricians football team motto was "With Malice to None and a Square Deal to all."

The Red Barn restaurant was a fast-food restaurant chain founded in 1961 in Springfield, Ohio. Originally, the Red Barn restaurants were in the shape of barns with a glass front and limited seating, while later buildings had the familiar fast-food style mansard roof which allowed them to comply to more local building codes. They were known for their signature "Big Barney" and "Barnbuster" burgers and the chain was quite forward-looking with their menu and were actually the first chain to have self-service salad bars. At its peak, Red Barn had 300–400 restaurants in 19 states, as well as outlets in southern Ontario, elsewhere in Canada, and Australia.

There may be an end of an era at Paramatown mall but you can keep that era alive with this tremendous shirt. Parmatown mall originally opened as a shopping plaza in 1956. It was enclosed by the mid-1960s. The original anchors were Higbee's and May Company. In 1967 General Cinema opened the Parmatown Theater with two screens, which was unheard of at the time. A third screen opened in the 1970s, along with two more in the 1980s. General Cinema closed the theater in 2001. Higbee's (which became Dillard's in 1992) closed in 2000. The mall was renovated in the early 2000s, which included the demolition of the old Higbee's structure which was then replaced with a Walmart in 2004.
