Whilst waiting for the whales to surface at Cape Solander, I took a few photos of the beautiful & rugged coastline with the changing blues of the water as the waves crashed against the shore. Cape Solander is at Kurnell which is 22 kms south of the centre of Sydney, Australia & is in the Botany Bay National Park. A whale finally made an appearance after about an hour of waiting & thrilled the crowd with it's breaching & tail flipping. Unfortunately my telephoto lens wasn't strong enough to get good focussed shots ... just happy memory snaps. A paraglider has jumped off the cliff at the famous Bald Hill near Stanwell Tops & soars like an eagle over this heavenly sight of Stanwell Park beach before landing in Stanwell Park. I think that is where they land. This was a fairly hot day. I'll be back for more shots when it's a bit cooler & in the meantime dream about soaring like an eagle like they have done. I was tempted to call this one the Carrot Cake Currarong Kookaburra. This fella or one of his mates later flew into the boot of my car to pinch a piece of carrot cake. I never thought I'd be able to shoot a 30 second exposure of a tree without it moving, but that's how calm our first night on Hamilton Island was. A stark change from a few days later, when the winds were 20-25 knots!

This sculpture by David McGuinness, featured at the Swell Sculpture Festival 2014 on Currumbin Beach, was one of my favourites. It's called "device tethering," and I think it makes quite the statement about smartphone usage...

When I headed down to the small town of Laurieton in New South Wales' Mid North Coast a few weeks ago, I knew I had to make it out to the beach for at least one sunrise. While the colours weren't spectacular, the sunrise and the early morning golden light still did not disappoint as I wandered along the rocky edge of the beach at Camden Head.

Our cabin for the weekend at Big River Caravan Park on the Clarence River near Grafton, NSW. That feeling of amazement when you look up and can see the Milky Way with the naked eye will never get old.

The majestic "Erebus" by Glen Star looking like he's ready to prance down the beach at the 2014 Swell Sculpture Festival at Currumbin. This was definitely my favourite of all the sculptures scattered across the week for the three-week-long festival.

The Howqua River runs through the area known as the High Country which is in the Mansfield area of Northern Victoria. I did this painting (and a few others) during a camping trip a couple of years ago. The time of day here is late afternoon/early evening.
