Industry -- often referred to as the "City of Industry" -- is a vaguely seahorse-shaped tax shelter pretending to be a city. This "city" in name only, counts a mere 204 residents. It is a strange place -- home to warehouses, Taiwanese restaurants, and a McDonald's used only for filming television commercials and the film, "Mac & Me." Shelley's Auto Parts was an old school speed shop located in the Mission Hills area of San Fernando Valley. From the mid-sixties until the early '80s, they stocked a wealth of go fast goodies that any hot rodder or muscle car aficionado might need to make their ride go fast or just look like it.

Even the Chargers were famous for fifteen minutes.

The Los Angeles Skyhawks was a professional soccer club based in Los Angeles, California, that was a member of the American Soccer League. Founded as part of the American Soccer League's expansion to the west coast in 1976, they were the first professional sports team to be based in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The ASL expanded in an attempt to compete with the North American Soccer League. Coming into the league with the Skyhawks were the Oakland (later Golden Bay) Buccaneers, Tacoma Tides, Sacramento Spirits, and the Utah Pioneers (later Golden Spikers). These teams formed the Western Division, while the Eastern Division had the established teams New York Apollo, Connecticut Yankees, Rhod

Rowland Heights is a suburb in the east San Gabriel Valley. Home to a large Taiwanese population, it's sometimes referred to as "Little Taipei" -- a nickname formerly applied to the suburb of Monterey Park, although that city is now home to more Hong Kongers and mainland Chinese. A design to show that Herbert is Greater than Tua

The New York Giants were a Major League Baseball team in the National League that began play in the 1883 season as the New York Gothams and were renamed in 1885. They continued as the New York Giants until the team moved to San Francisco, California after the 1957 season, where the team continues its history as the San Francisco Giants. The team moved west at the same time as its longtime rival, the Brooklyn Dodgers, also in the National League, moved to Los Angeles in southern California as the Los Angeles Dodgers continuing the National League, same-state rivalry.

The City of Los Santos, commonly known as Los Santos and often abbreviated as L.S., is a major city located in southern San Andreas in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. GTA V marks Los Santos' second appearance in the series after its 3D Universe counterpart in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which came out in 2004. The new rendition of the city is much more detailed, larger, and looks more alive than ever before. Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, California and its greater metropolitan area. Los Santos is Spanish for "The Saints", a play on "The Angels", which is the translation of Los Angeles.

East Pasadena is a small, unincorporated community to the east of Pasadena -- which is slowly nibbling away at its edges. To be honest, it's not known for a whole lot and more folks use "East Pasadena" to refer to the eastern neighborhoods of Pasadena than they do this tiny community, which I explored for "California Fool's Gold" in 2013. https://ericbrightwell.com/2013/07/25/to-see-my-home-in-east-pasadena/

The San Bernardino Spirit were a Class A minor league team in the California League. The team arrived in San Bernardino in 1987 after relocating from Ventura County, California. The team played as an independent club in 1987 with no Major League affiliation but became associated with the the Seattle Mariners for the 1988 season. The team moved to Rancho Cucamonga in 1993, where they original Spirit franchise would be known as the Quakes. A second Spirit team started that same year in San Bernardino but lacked major league affiliation until 1995 when an agreement was made with the Dodgers and soon thereafter became the Stampede.

I wrote a primer and mapped the San Fernando Valley, or simply, "The Valley," for "California Fool's Gold" in 2012. This watercolor map, however, dates to 2013 or so (when I experimenting with watercolors). California Republic - Vintage Distressed Look

The Oakland Oaks were a minor league baseball team in Oakland, California that played in the Pacific Coast League from 1903 through 1955, after which the club transferred to Vancouver, British Columbia. The team was named for the city and used the oak tree and the acorn as its symbols.
