How interesting is the colour of this stream? You could tell the water came from a glacier from how milky -- yet how blue -- it was. And that waterfall in the background? That's Takkakaw Falls, a monster of a waterfall. This photo would barely encompass the bottom quarter of it!

The incredibly tall rough-and-tumble of Takakkaw Falls. It's over 300m tall and I definitely needed a wide angle to fit it all in one shot, even from this far away!

The sun peeks through the trees on a gorgeous morning at Emerald Lake. It's hard to believe, but the lake really is that emerald-coloured. There's so many amazing angles on it as well -- particularly because you can walk a full 6km circuit around the lake -- that you can easily spend an entire day exploring there.

We could see hints of sparkling green from our room, but when we finally found this little lookout between the trees we were stunned at how truly gorgeous Emerald Lake was. Camera: Nikon D700 w/ 24-70mm f/2.8 lens Location: Emerald Lake, British Columbia, Canada

On our first morning at Emerald Lake Lodge, we woke up to drizzly rain and low clouds. Only a few hours later, this was the view. How could this place not be one of my favourite views in the Rockies?

This is yet another scene that shows the drastic changes of the seasons in the Rockies. On my previous visit to Emerald Lake, people were out in canoes in the same place I stood to take this photo!

A small clearing in the woods on the path around Emerald Lake. We couldn't have asked for a better day to be wandering in Yoho National Park.

Because of a bit of a snafu with the rental car company which meant I couldn't drive our car, I didn't get to see as many lakes in the Canadian Rockies in morning light as I would have liked. Spending two mornings on the gorgeous shores of Emerald Lake made up for that though!
