Kokopelli (pronounced "Coke-a-pellie") comes to us from the folklore of the Anasazi and Hopi. Petroglyphs depicting the flute player date back to 1,000 BC. He was their deity of fertility, healing and mischief. He was also known to be a bit of a Casanova. Legends and stories about Kokopelli are plentiful throughout the southwest and as winter sets in here in the north country our favorite is that when he plays his flute, the sun comes out, the snow melts, grass begins to grow, birds sing, and all the animals gather to hear his songs.
It was believed that good luck came to all who listened to Kokopelli's songs. He embodies everything pure and spiritual in music. His flute symbolizes joy. It's magic sparks creativity and helps dreams come true.
