+ D I S O R D E R - H A T E T H E N A T U R E. A universe of disorder. We isolate ourselves from the chaos of the natural world. Our disdain is evident for those uncivilised creatures inhabiting the dust and mud. Us humans must really despise this planet.

My entry which came 4th out of over 1,100 entries for the 2015 Graphic Design Award by Yamaha. The Brief: The Graphic Design Award by Yamaha (GDAY) is a global award that looks for new designs of marques, symbols, and pictograms that, in a universal way, promote our 2014 theme of Kando in the truest sense of the word. Kando means "for the heart" or "to be deeply moved". The Concept: The spirit of movement is the basis of the design. Moving the heart, motion on a motorbike and the rhythmic development within music. I have combined these concepts with pattern – a device often seen in nature, to create a form intended to also represent inspiration. The similarity the form has to an iris is to draw attention, communicate a human aspect and refer to the idea of cyclic completion associated with circular forms. The variation of line thickness is a device intended to create 'interference' patterns on digital media when the form is scaled or moving within screen media. Or in other words, bring the form to life and relinquish control over it. I was inspired by the idea of loving something enough to set it free.
