The Bionic Woman was an American sci-fi action-adventure television series starring Lindsay Wagner that ran from 1976 to 1978. The Bionic Woman series features Jaime Sommers, who takes on special high-risk government missions using her superhuman bionic powers. Jaime first appears in a two-part episode of The Six Million Dollar Man in 1975 titled "The Bionic Woman." It's after a skydiving accident that Jaime is rebuilt similar to her Six Million Dollar Man boyfriend, Steve Austin, in exchange for going to work as an operative of the Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) where he works as a secret agent.

The Bionic Woman

The Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) is a semi-secret organization under the direction of Oscar Goldman and through which Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers perform operative duties. A division of the United States Department of State and therefore within the purview of its Secretary, (Jaime and the King, The Solid Gold Kidnapping) the OSI's activities primarily center around the creation and protection of new technologies vital to national defense. It has occasionally sent agents on more traditional diplomatic details, especially when those missions would benefit from the unique technologies it has developed. Rarely, the OSI has been used as the lead Federal agency on fairly ordinary domestic crises.

Jaime Sommers suffers a fatal accident and is reborn as a bionic woman and a government secret agent who struggles to find her way back to a normal life.

Lindsay Jean Wagner (born June 22, 1949) is an American film and television actress, model, author, singer, and acting coach. Wagner is best known for her leading role in the American science-fiction television series The Bionic Woman (1976–1978), in which she portrayed action character Jaime Sommers. She first played this role on the series The Six Million Dollar Man. The character became a popular-culture icon of the 1970s. For this role, Wagner won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Dramatic Role in 1977 – the first for an actor or actress in a science fiction series.
