This mid 19th century US Military History photo features Major General George H. Thomas, a US Army officer who served as a Union General during the American Civil War. He was one of the principal commanders in the Western Theater and also served in the Mexican-American War. He chose to remain with the US Army for the Civil War as a Southern Unionist, despite being a Virginian and went on to win one of the first Union victories in the war, at Mill Springs in Kentucky, and also served in important subordinate commands at Perryville and Stones River.

Vultures are holy creatures.
Tending the dead.
Bowing low.
Bared head.
Whispers to cold flesh,
“Your old name is not your king.
I rename you ‘Everything.’”
