This is from a photograph taken at il Duomo di Firenze (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore). This statue is above and to the left of the main door to the cathedral. It is of Pope Celestine I. Why he’s depicted with his middle finger extended is unknown. Maybe it’s to ward of pigeons (“shoot the bird”), or perhaps it’s making a statement. Our interpretation is it’s his (and thus, the Catholic Church’s) attitude toward everybody. A bold way to tell people to go F*** themselves.

Here's a nice humorous image of a smiling pope, clutching a microphone. I couldn't quite decide whether he looked like he was cracking a joke, or about to croon his latest hit --so I made both versions. In this interpretation, he's announcing his next song is "off his new album"

Here's a nice humorous image of a smiling Pope Francis, clutching a microphone. I couldn't quite decide whether he looked like he was cracking a joke, or about to croon his latest hit --so I made both versions. In this interpretation, he's telling the one about the two nuns in the bath!

"Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth" wrote John Paul II on September 14th 1998 in his encyclical letter FIDES ET RATIO. This design depicts this truth in a simple form of an apple falling from the tree ;)
