Hephaestus is the Greek God of fire, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, metals, and volcanoes. The Romans called him Vulcan. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, or in some accounts only the son of Hera alone. Unlike many deities, Hephaestus lives with disability, having a lame foot. In the design, he’s surrounded by the four Stoic virtues: wisdom, justice, courage, and temperance.
