The beloved, belated Yorktowne Theatre opened its doors on May 28, 1969 in Durham, North Carolina. In its heyday, the Yorktowne was Durham's premier destination for first-run movies. After two decades of popularity, the theater declined due to competition from newer theaters nearby. The Yorktowne Theatre closed its doors in 1995. In 2008, an attempt was made to restore the theater as an arthouse movie theater but sadly, it failed. The Yorktowne Theatre was demolished in November 2008. Wear this t-shirt to show you remember when going to the movies was a simpler time. Wear it to show you remember the Yorktowne in all its moviegoing glory.
