Italian American Pins and Buttons
Description: In 1970, one of the more bizarre chapters in Italian American history began when an infamous Italian American from Brooklyn, NY created the Italian American Civil Rights League! Formed to fight discriminatory representations of Italians in American media and news, the league exploded onto the scene with star-studded and sold out benefit concerts in Madison Square Garden, and, on June 29, 1970, they rallied nearly 100,000 Italian Americans in Manhattan’s Columbus Circle for the first ever “Italian American Unity Day”. Yet, just a year later, the second Unity Day ended in violence and bloodshed, and the IACRL quickly faded into the pages of history. But, for Italian Americans living throughout the east coast in the years between 1970-1971

The classic Italian market was popular for its authentic homemade deli offerings, from meatballs and marina sauce to party trays and sub sandwiches, all made with the finest imported meats and cheeses. Fiore’s is said to be the first to offer the Lent favorite pepper and egg sandwich in Chicago, and even after 50 years, nobody has stepped up to dispute the claim.
Description: Capisce (pronounced cah-PEESH) is an Italian word that is used in American slang to say "got it" or "understand." The correct word in Italian would be capisci (pronounced cah-PEE-shee) to address the second person informally, a.k.a. you. Capisce, in Italian, is used only to address the second person formally (like when speaking to an elder or someone you don't know) or to express that a third person (he, she, it) understands. The correct Italian pronunciation of capisce is cah-PEE-shay.
