During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery consisted of the 3d Battalion, 8th Field Artillery; 5th Battalion, 8th Field Artillery; and the 1st Battalion (Airborne), 39th Field Artillery. The living quarters for these three units were situated between the 82d Airborne Division and the Special Forces at Fort Bragg. Of the three units, only 1-39th was airborne qualified and served as the only fully airborne deployable 155 mm Field Artillery unit in history.[citation needed] The 1-39th FA and 3-8th FA were key components of the thrust into Iraq in the first Gulf War, providing fire support for the French Foreign Legion and the 82nd Airborne Division.

The 51st Signal Battalion is a United States Army unit which is part of the 35th Signal Brigade located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM; formerly the separate Fort Lewis and McChord AFB), Washington. Its mission is to rapidly deploy worldwide to engineer, install, operate, maintain, and defend the LandWarNet in support of full spectrum operations. The battalion deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 and in 2008-2009 and sent elements to Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011.

The United States Army Ordnance Corps, formerly the United States Army Ordnance Department, is a Sustainment branch of the United States Army, headquartered at Fort Lee, Virginia. The broad mission of the Ordnance Corps is to supply Army combat units with weapons and ammunition, including at times their procurement and maintenance. Along with the Quartermaster Corps and Transportation Corps, it forms a critical component of the U.S. Army logistics system. In the Gulf War, VII Corps was probably the most powerful formation of its type ever to take to the battlefield. Normally, a corps commands three divisions when at full strength, along with other units such as artillery of various types, corps-level engineers and support units. However, VII Corps had far more firepower under its command.

The 44th Medical Brigade participated in numerous campaigns and operations other than war. Elements of the Brigade participated on Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983, Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989-1990, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in southwest Asia (including Saudi Arabia) in 1990-1991, Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti 1992, as well as humanitarian assistance to St. Croix, in Florida following Hurricane Andrew, and in the US Virgin Islands following Hurricane Marilyn.
