The 50th Infantry Regiment is a United States Army infantry regiment. Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1963 as the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Relieved 1 September 1967 from assignment to the 2d Armored Division for duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Served under the 3d Brigade, 4th Infantry Division [Binh Dinh and Kontum Provinces] Mar 1968 - Apr 1968.

Three battalions (2nd Bn, 19th Arty; 1st Bn, 21st Arty; and 1st Bn, 77th Arty) were 105mm towed battalions armed with the new M102 howitzer. The 8th Bn 4th Artillery was a 175mm, self-propelled gun battalion assigned to I Field Force along the DMZ. Part of the 108th Artillery Group. Later converted to dual 8-Inch Howitzer and 175mm Gun Battalion. Mainly supporting the US Marine Units. Later converting into a dual 8-Inch Howitzer and 175mm Gun battalion Supporting 25th Infantry Division as well.

The 5th Bn of the 4th Artillery was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized). The 5th Bn used 155MM Self Propelled Howitzers principally located at Quang Tri to support the 1st Brigade Task Force.

In August 1965, elements of the 35th Infantry started their rotation into the Vietnam War, arriving in South Vietnam. The 1st and 2d battalions, along with the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, and the 2d Battalion, 9th Artillery provided the core combat units of the 3d Brigade, 25th Infantry Division and were deployed to the Central Highlands at Pleiku. Final units arrived by Christmas 1965. As part of the 1st Cavalry Division, 2-8th Cavalry was sent to Vietnam in September 1965. The Mustangs saw some of the fiercest battles. B Company was the first unit in the 1st Cavalry Division to receive the Valorous Unit Citation in 1966. 2-8th Cavalry actively patrolled the jungles of Vietnam to the north and south of Highway 1, east of Bien Hoa, until it stood down in June 1972. On 10 May 1972, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying a platoon from D Company, 2-8th Cavalry (named Angry Skipper) crashed and all aboard were killed. The Battalion left Vietnam in 1971 and was inactivated on 28 June 1972.

The 10th Cavalry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments in the post–Civil War Regular Army. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish–American War in Cuba and in the Philippine–American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in World War II until its deactivation in 1944. The regiment have served in conflicts ranging from the Vietnam War to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
