Published in New York, US, by Home of the Sages of Israel, designed by Mitchell Loeb. Public domain, via PPPA. Mitchell Loeb (1889-1968) was born in Poland and immigrated to the US as a teen. As an artist, his work reflected his support for Labor, liberal causes, and Israel. This Hanukkah postcard connected the Maccabean Revolt and Israel’s War of Independence, symbolizing the themes of prayer and war in the defense of Israel. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
