Originally called Lops, the Scottish Fold is a breed of cat defined by a genetic mutation that causes weakened cartilage throughout the body that results in the ears folding cap-like over the head. The Scottish Fold comes in a long haired and short haired variety and are known for their rounded bodies and large owl-like eyes. When a Scottish Fold kitten is born without the ears lopped forward they're known as the Scottish Straight, which is considered its own breed.
