Description: New York’s Red Rock West could have been Coyote Ugly’s truly ugly, possibly inbred cousin. With an obvious cowboy roadhouse type vibe accented with the stench of stale beer and a Harley riding (or wannabe riding) clientele and tables with no chairs, Red Rock West Saloon was not your typical NYC nightspot to say the least. However, any shortcomings were quickly overlooked as the bartenders were hot and very much known for putting on an engaging show with plenty of audience interaction, again, think Coyote Ugly.
Description: Wanting to get in on California's booming petroleum industry, a Canadian man named C.C. (Courtney Chauncey) Julian launched Julian Petroleum Company in 1923 in Los Angeles. Julian's company was little more than a vast Ponzi scheme masked as an investment opportunity, bilking millions from eager investors through aggressive newspaper advertising. As the fraud collapsed in 1927, the appointed as receiver, and created Sunset Pacific Oil Company from the remains of Julian Petroleum Company. Sunset Pacific failed with $12 million in debt to Associated Oil, and was reorganized into Sunset Oil Company in 1934. Long story short, Golden Eagle Motor Oil was one of Sunset's first products, and one that helped make the reorganized company a success.
Description: Based in Omaha, Nebraska, Bird Engineering sold their minibikes and go karts through major department stores throughout the '60s and '70s. They offered several models of minibikes over the years, though the WarEagle was without question the most popular and as such, is one of the more common models one might find for sale today if you're in the market for an old school minibike.
Description: Already an accomplished artist, Jeff McCann began customizing motorcycles in the mid-60s and soon found himself with a steady side-gig painting and customizing friend’s bikes. Realizing the potential to build custom choppers for a living, Jeff partnered with his friend Chris, settled on the name CJ Custom Cycle Parts, and opened their new business venture together in 1970. With a mix of their own house designed parts and inventory goodies, CJ had everything an early 70's biker could want to customize their bike and for those wanting to go all the way, the shop also offered complete custom-builds, either using a customer provided donor bike or as a built to order turn-key chopper based on brand-new motorcycles right off the showroom floor.
