Description: The New York Jazz Festival debuted on Randall's Island on August 24 and 25, 1956 with a similar design as this version. With a very ‘sketchy’ promotional graphics poster, in my opinion, this was the first Jazz festival in New York. The ‘fest’ was promoted with an 8.5 x 11 poor put together a booklet with this colorful design that today you can find it on sale on eBay. I designed my own taking the original concept and elevated it to a more eye appealing. The lineup back then included Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan, Joe Williams, Erroll Garner, Gene Krupa, Coleman Hawkins. Louis Armstrong didn’t make it until next year.
