Early map of the world, showing America. Produced in 1507 by the German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller, this is the first known document to use the name America to refer to the New World. Waldseemuller proposed the name in honour of the supposed discoverer of the continent, Amerigo Vespucci. Out of the 1000 copies of the map issued, only one remains. It is stored in the Library of Congress, Washington DC, USA.

King Of Kings - Ancient Persian History

For this hand-carved block carving I have based my design on an original image from Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae found in the Bibliothèque nationale France (National Library of France.) The image is a piece of marginalia depicting a Medieval king. I recreated this image in my own style and have printed this block by hand before scanning it to make this design.

Cave of the hands. Cave paintings in the Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands) in Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. These stencilled hands have been painted over each other over thousands of years. The paintings with the palest pigments date to 11,000 years ago, while the ones with the brighter pigments date to 7000 years ago.

US President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919, left) and Scottish-American naturalist and geologist John Muir (1838-1914, right) on Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park, California, USA, in 1903. Muir spent years studying the geology and natural history of the Yosemite Valley. He proposed a theory that glaciers had sculpted the valley, and persuaded President Roosevelt to support the protection of Yosemite in a National Park.

Visscher's view of London, 1616. Known as the Visscher panorama, this artwork was engraved by Dutch artist and map-maker Claes Visscher (1586-1652). The view dates from around 1600 and shows central London as it was before the Great Fire of London. The engraving was published in Amsterdam in 1616, under the title: 'Londinum Florentissima Britanniae Urbs Toto Orbe Celeberrimum Emporiumque'. This view looks north from Southwark on the south bank. Prominent features include Old St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the houses on Old London Bridge, then the only bridge across the Thames in London. Many church spires are shown, and ships and boats on the river.

Hopi House Corner is a color photographic art print of the historic Hopi House located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The structure was built in 1904 and the intent was to stay true to the original architecture of Hopi pueblos that the Native American Tribe built in the Arizona area. It was founded before Inca civilization and still has many architectural and cultural relics from Inca times, conquistador times, and ancient times as well. It's a beautiful and fascinating area to visit.
