When I was a kid, my folks and I would go to Shakey's Pizza every Friday night in Rancho Cordova CA. After that we would then go to Payless. I have the fondest memories of those days.

The parlor was used for formal family occasions such as weddings, births and funerals. The parlour typically had the family's best furniture, in this room you can see a lovely hurricane lamp in front of a lace curtain.

Deep Ellum is a neighborhood near downtown in East Dallas, Texas. The area was settled as a “freedmens’ town” by former slaves after the Civil War; its location on Elm Street, east of the railroad tracks, was too far from downtown Dallas to be desirable. The area was called Deep Elm or, as early residents pronounced it, “Deep Ellum.” As a predominately African American neighborhood, Deep Ellum hosted countless black owned businesses, including Black Gail’s Domino Parlor, where players paid a few pennies per hour to rent a table and gamble on games of dominoes.

The Pike in Long Beach was a seaside amusement area that offered a variety of entertainment options to the public. The streets were bustling with a mix of locals, sailors, and sea merchants who made Long Beach their port of call. The Pike had everything from bathhouses and arcades to food stands and fortune-tellers, and of course, tattoo parlors. At its height, The Pike was home to a dozen tattoo parlors and had quite a reputation for being a seedy destination. In 1954, The Pike changed its name to Nu-Pike in an attempt to rebrand itself to keep up with new family-friendly theme parks that had opened nearby. Charles (CM) Russell, the “cowboy artist”, created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States. He lived and worked among the cowboys and the Blood Indian tribe in his younger years. This painting is called “Indian Beauty Parlor” and depicts the grooming and hair cutting of an Indian brave.

Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor was a widely popular chain of restaurants from 1963 to 2008 throughout the United States. The two locations in the Valley of the Sun were inside Chris-Town Mall and on Scottsdale Road and Indian School Road in Scottsdale.
