I think Barbara and Adam Maitland make one of my favorite movie couples ... so naive, but sweet and well-meaning, and played so earnestly by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, respectively. The whole opening of Beetlejuice is full of wide-eyed reactions like this one, as they slowly find out they have inadvertently joined an exclusive club known as the recently deceased.

I've recently purchased a new Tamron zoom lens and had the opportunity of taking some decent shots of two new windows installed in Nov. 2016 in the clerestory of St Peter's Anglican Church, East Maitland. This photo shows portions of the left and right lancets of the St Luke window but focuses in on the quatrafoil above, featuring a winged bull, the Medieaval symbol for St Luke

The second window installed at St Peter's Anglican Church, East Maitland in Nov 2016, this figure is a remake of an Edward Burne-Jones design. Burne-Jones was a leading figure in the Pre-Raphaelite movement in Britain, associated with William Morris & Company. He made at least five versions of this design himself and while I have used colours to suit my own scheme here I have tried to remain as faithful as possible to the original work.

The figure is an interpretation in glass of the 1472 painting of St James by Carlo Crivelli. The Church itself is quite beautiful, with a wealth of stained glass. It was built by Edmund Blackett, a colonial architect, in the mid-1800's

In the book: "Rule Number Two: the living usually won't see the dead". Adam: 'Won't' or 'can't'? Barbara: It just says 'won't'. God, this book is so stupid. I can't understand anything in it. [Adam takes the book and closes it] Adam: Barb, honey... we're dead. I don't think we have very much to worry about anymore.

Remember the days when movies only used tangible practical effects instead of CGI for every single little item on screen? Beetlejuice in particular has many scenes that hearken back to really old school stop-motion animation effects, the same techniques that were used in classic action-horror movies like Jason and the Argonauts (1963), and even going way back to King Kong (1933). This is one of the coolest things about Beetlejuice, in my opinion, and this piece is dedicated to the scene where Barbara and Adam Maitland stretch and do horrible things to their faces in an attempt to scare the people who invaded their home after they died ... all done in beautifully weird stop-motion animation.
