From an original engraving The faiths of the World by James Gardner. Published circa 1860 by Fullarton & Co. Built for the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, better known for his commissioning of the nearby Taj Mahal for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mehal. Please note with regard to scanned antique prints there may be some age related marks or faults from the originals which will show also on any print ordered. This is inevitable with prints of this age & actually lends an authentic look to the prints. Please refer to the actual image on sale. Taj Mahal

A view of the Taj Mahal, Agra, India, from the Red Fort. Legend has it that Shah Jahan built the beautiful Taj Mahal for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Unlike his grandfather, Shah Jahan tended to have buildings made from white marble, often inlaid with gold or semi-precious gems. At the end of his life, Shah Jahan was deposed and restrained by his son, Aurangzeb, in the fort. It is rumoured that Shah Jahan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of the Taj Mahal.
