Taken in Leeds West Yorkshire, these are a remnant from when Leeds was seeing itself as the Car City of the North. The A58 rips itself thorough the heart of the city and creates a gash of speeding motorway that tears the city asunder. Foot bridges like these with ramps and stair access were constructed to allow pedestrians to deal with the monstrous road roaring beneath them. Today they look tired and worn out often festooned with graffiti, in the words of Paul Simon THE WORDS OF THE PROPHETS. Taken on A Canon EOS 70D this image contains 7 exposures blended together in HDR FEx Pro 2 which was then transferred to SIlver FEx Pro 2 for the mono conversion and before being resized in On1's Resize 10 module using the Genuine Fractals engine...

This is part of a series of images I am working on in an attempt to highlight the plight of the homeless on the streets, principally of the UK as that is where I am from, but essentially anywhere in the world. The guy sitting on the floor is homeless, I know I chatted to him. This was in the middle of Leeds City Centre on a busy Friday morning, but I manged to catch this moment whiles the street around him was free of other pedestrians. The guy was sitting in front of vacant shop units and was simply whiling away his time waiting for anyone to drop something into his cup that he had placed on the pavement in front of him. I am part of the same society that this guy is also a part of. But I am blessed to be part of the society ...

Taken in Leeds West Yorkshire in 2017 This was early morning in one of the few subways that are left in the city. otherwise empty a homeless man had taken up residence for the night, presumably because the sub way offers a degree of shelter from the elements and in all likelihood because come rush hour the footfall past him would be extremely high. This image forms part of my Streets Of...... project, seeking to focus attention on the homeless and prompt us to perhaps think and give a little more than we might otherwise do so. One ironic element of this image, if you look close enough, is the Subway cup near to the mans head. Subway therefore representing rough sleeping and temporary shelter and also, in the cup, representing abun...

My first post of 2018 is actually an image that I took in Leeds City Centre in April 2017. Thee are times when an image just has to take time to gestate to become something that you are happy with. There are also times when you have to re-visit your archive and try to look at the images through fresh eyes to see if there is anything there that you missed before. I am not sure which category this falls in but I have processed it in Adobe ACR before transferring it to Topaz Labs B&W 2 for the mono finish. I then put it back through the Adobe ACR filter to use the scale tool to bring the man subject more into the frame, thus focusing attention on the cyclist. A bit of cleaning up was carried out using the clone tools in PS before th...

Featured in Speaking Photos Group. A tiger - Cropped so that the format of the image accentuates the majesty and strength of this amazing creature. A single frame processed in Adobe Camera RAW with using the clarity and vibrance sliders. I also used the level tool to adjust the angle of the shot slightly. The image was cropped using the crop tool in RAW and the colours given a bit of punch using Topaz Labs Clarity Filter. Resized in ON1 RAW using the Genuine Fractals Engine. Views >4000 The Angel of the North probably one of the most photographed works of public art in the north of England if not the country as a whole. I felt it required a fresh view and as Easter was fast approaching and the word Angel being Hebrew for messenger I thought an artistic take would be to re-create the crucifixion scene for a modern day audience. Taken just South of Newcastle and on the East Coast of England, three images were blended together to create this scene that before this image, only existed in my head.

This is part of a series of images I am working on in an attempt to highlight the plight of the homeless on the streets, principally of the UK as that is where I am from, but essentially anywhere in the world. I wonder in exactly how many places would this man be WELCOME? how interested is he in; Self sService Machines Online Banking Customer Service WiFi Place to Talk and about what? and about Customer Service? All these things, maybe things that you and I take for granted, are things that are a world away from this mans day to day experiences. Instead of all those things on offer, he takes advantage of more simple things. Like rummaging in the bins for the things that he wants and possibly even needs for survival.........

Why is this called Contrasts? This is part of a series of images I am working on in an attempt to highlight the plight of the homeless on the streets, principally of the UK as that is where I am from, but essentially anywhere in the world. The contrasts? The guy sitting on the floor is homeless, I know I chatted to him. The people standing are at the ATM drawing out money. Yes the guy sitting on the floor has strategically positioned himself but nevertheless, there is a contrast here both in the picture and in society itself. I am part of that society and I am blessed to be part of the society that would fall into the definition of "haves" rather than that of the "have not's" and I am grateful to my God for that. At the moment ...

This is the Headquarters building of the Halifax Bank in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The building is now home to The Lloyds Banking Group after its bailout of the failing Halifax Group under the instructions of the British Government following the banking criss in the late 2000's. It is a brute of a building, dominating the towns skyline and streetscape. Under normal circumstances I would not give the building the time of day to photograph I think it is such an ugly building. If you are looking for an example of of brutalist arrogant architecture, look no further. This image was taken from approximately a mile away half-way up the valley side that overlooks Halifax Town Centre at dusk. The time of day of the shot somewhat softens th...

The discarded plastic cups at a leisure centre, sitting on the window ledge overlooking the main sports hall. We were at a cat show recently and had a drink in the middle of the afternoon in the sports centres cafe, I saw this random composition and thought I could make a decent mono shot of it, so I opened up the aperture on my lens, focused on the nearest empty cup and fired off a couple of shots. Back in Photoshop I straightened out the image a little as it was ever so slightly skewed, doing this in ACR I used the lens profile feature to start as my processing point for the frame. I then transferred the image to Perfect Photosuite 9.5 B&W Module and messed about with the image till I got the effect that I was after. This i...

Inspired by Van Gogh's Wheat fields, this is a modern day interpretation of a crop field turnned into an impressionist image. Taken originally near Lotherton Hall, Leeds, West Yorkshire. The original photo was ported into GMX Photo Painter and initially large brush strokes used using an Oil brush. Detail was then added using progressively smaller brushes. However to maintain the impressionistic effect in this one I did not let the brush size go below 25% Resized in PS, no additional adjustments were needed due to the high saturation levels in the original photo and those added in the conversion process.

Taken in Leeds City Centre, this is one of the Victorian Shopping Arcades in, yes you have guessed it, the Victorian Quarter. Thus shot is an HDR of seven shots blended together in HDR Efex Pro 2 with the natural filter applied. I then transferred the image to the ACR filter in Photoshop to straighten the image in the lens correction tool, where I also reduced the clarity to give the 'soft focus' effect. Finally the image was passed through the Topaz Labs DeNoise 5 Filter to remove noise that had crept in through the HDR process. Resized in Perfect Photosuite 9 using the Genuine Fractals Engine. Core file shot at: 1/400 f/5.6 ISO 100 AWB Other Auto Bracketing Files were at +/- EV 3.0 Canon 70D 10-18mm Lens set at 1...

Probably the most ugly modern building in Leeds City Centre. (I am entitled to hold this opinion being a Planning Officer of the City Council). I spent a day recently walking the streets of Leeds taking shots and even though I think this is the worst example of modern architecture in Leeds, (others do come a close second), I was still compelled to take some shots of it. However I was loathed to post any as they just represented this monstrosity in all its gory (no that is not a spelling mistake). Anyway I trialled Topaz Labs Glow filter and played about with a couple of the pre-sets. I could not choose which effect I liked the best so I blended them together using layers and changing the blending mode in Photoshop. Canon 70...
