This is my interpretation of the kappa from Japanese folklore. Don't linger too close to river edges, or one of these guys might pop out and extract your shirikodama, which apparently sits inside your anus and contains your immortal soul. You're welcome.
Abura Sumashi. Pencil, ink, and marker on paper; digital colour.
Abura Sumashi is a creature from the folklore of Amakusa in Kumamoto prefecture. This spirit, who surprises people on the Kusazumigoe mountain pass, is thought to be the ghost of a human who stole oil.
