Named for Sitka Sound in Alaska, the Sitka spruce is the tallest conifer in the world. Moist ocean air and summer fog are the main factors that account for Sitka spruce's large growth.
Sitka spruce trees provide good roosting spots for bald eagles and peregrine falcons. Deer, porcupines, elk, bear, rabbits, and hares browse the foliage. Native to northwest America, Sitka spruce trees are found on the coast from northern California to Alaska. Sitka spruce is also the most important timber tree in Alaska, used for many products including ladders, oars, aircraft components, planking, masts, and sounding boards for musical instruments (pianos, guitars, etc).

Cook Inlet, branch of the Gulf of Alaska, Alaska, U.S. Situated in the North Pacific Ocean, it is bounded by the Kenai Peninsula on the east and extends northeast. The inlet is fed by the Susitna, Matanuska, and Kenai rivers. The city of Anchorage in southern Alaska is situated near the head of the inlet (which receives the Susitna River), where Turnagain Arm stretches southeast and Knik Arm northeast. In 1778 the British navigator Captain James Cook entered the inlet during his search for the Northwest Passage. The cities of Kenai and Homer are located along the inlet.

Her relatives followed, Kalifornsky said, to become Mount Redoubt, Mount Iliamna and the Chigmit Mountain Range. Another wandered inland to become Denali.
