Under the leadership of Osei Tutu I, Kumasi became the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom and the spiritual home of the sacred Sikadwa Kofi. Because of his influence and legacy, the region and its capital became widely associated with his name, giving rise to the nickname “Oseikrom.”
