Description: "Mikroelektronik im Sozialismus, Für das Wohl des Volkes" or "Microelectronics in Socialism For The Welfare of the People" This design comes from an East German (GDR) poster depicting the face of Karl Marx onto a circuit board celebrating the use of modern microelectronics in building socialism. I have completely redrawn, recolored, and refinished this design in order to preserve this important and fascinating piece of East German and technological history. In the 1940s, Hopper found the first computer bug (which was an actual bug – a moth that got caught in a circuit relay). In the 1950s, she invented compiled programming languages, one of which was COBOL, and is still used today. She was on ‘60 Minutes’ and David Letterman. Her energy and innovations have shaped the future of programming and inspired a generation to think critically about the cost of their “nanoseconds".

Description: Released in 1981, the VIC-20 was a family version of the PET series (using the same microprocessor and Basic language) and was the first computer to sell more than one million units. International Computer Magazine considered it a compact, user-friendly home computer suitable for inexperienced users, and they awarded it "Computer of the Year." Despite having only 5 KB RAM, it spawned thousands of software programs and games, available on cassette and cartridge. '80s computing magazines publishing cheap programs for users to type in. Originally dubbed the MicroPET in 1980, it later became known as the VIC-20, with VIC referencing the VIC-I (Video Interface Chip) chip used for graphics and sound.
