Description: The Red Tailed Hawk is one of the most common of the birds of Prey. The red-tailed hawk is found around open fields, especially near woodlots close to farms and cities. Not a bird of the deep woods, it is usually found in grasslands or marsh-shrub habitats. It also found in urban areas. The red-tail is the largest hawk, usually weighing between 2 and 4 pounds and may have a wingspan of 56 inches.
Description: During 2021, I was regularly visited by a friendly red-tailed hawk for many days. I even did a video series on my YouTube channel about it. (https://youtu.be/LCs5WAvx_Jc). I saw her a few times the next year, but had not recognized her since. This morning (2026) I was drawn to one of her photos to publish, when suddenly I looked up and there was a red-tailed hawk perched about 12 feet away from me outside my window looking straight at me. It wasn’t her, but I felt the magic of her presence nonetheless. These hawks appear during troubled times and give great strength to the humans who view them as valuable totem or spirit animals. It is a blessing beyond belief.

The couple will mate for life and may even come back to this same nest year after year. We can tell by the more colorful shells that these are healthy eggs which means their parents are probably fairly well fed, boding well for the hawklets survival as well as the overall health of this particular ecosystem. The Trembling Aspen pods let loose their seeds as the breeze blows through. The Aspen’s offspring are hatching in their own way, taking flight on the fluffy white down that is so easily carried by the spring zephyr.
