Description: The US Festival (US pronounced like the pronoun, not as initials) was the name of two early ’80s music festivals held in San Bernardino, California. Created by Steve Wozniak, who believed that the ’70s were the “me” generation, he intended the US Festivals to encourage the ’80s to be more community-oriented and combine technology with music. The first event was held over Labor Day weekend in September ’82, and the second was less than nine months later, over Memorial Day weekend in May ’83. The ’82 event had a mix of bands slotted over the three-day event, but ’83 added themed days. While the US Festival events were hugely popular with concert-goers, both events managed to lose $12 million, making them commercial failures.

Riders included Eddie Fiola, Mike Dominguez, Greg Hill, Gary Ellis, and many others. In 1985 Bob Morales said “GT Bicycles made an offer to buy Dyno. I negotiated a contract with GT to design bicycle frames and components and to consult on a marketing strategy for them.” Morales developed a line of DYNO frames and bicycles for GT.
Description: Joust is an action game developed by Williams that released in arcades in 1982, and began porting to consoles and PC's the following year. While not the first two-player cooperative video game, Joust's success and polished implementation popularized the concept. Player 1 rides an ostrich, player 2 a stork. Repeatedly pressing the flap button gains altitude, while a two-directional joystick controls direction. In a collision with enemy knights riding buzzards—or the other player—the higher rider dismounts the other. The game was well-received by players and critics, and the mechanics influenced other games. Joust was ported to numerous home systems and was followed by a more complex and less popular arcade sequel in 1986.
Description: On-Line Systems was renamed Sierra On-Line in 1982, and they moved to Oakhurst, California. The "Sierra" name was taken from the Sierra Nevada mountain range that Oakhurst was near, and its new logo incorporated the imagery of a mountain reflecting that. By early 1984, InfoWorld estimated that Sierra was the world's 12th-largest microcomputer-software company, with $12.5 million in 1983 sales. Sierra became a public company in 1989, trading on the NASDAQ under the stock ticker "SIER". Additional investment from public funding allowed the company to engage in further acquisitions over the next several years. In 1990, Sierra released King's Quest V, the first Sierra On-Line game ever to have more than 500,000 copies sold.

Description: "Knight Rider, a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law." That was the narration that opened the 1982 TV drama, Knight Rider. While that gives a pretty good general overview, a more detailed synopsis goes something like this: Reborn, so to speak, after getting shot in the face, Knight dedicates his life to fighting for justice. Billionaire Wilton Knight hires Michael to be the lead field agent in his Knight Foundation's public justice organization, part of which includes the development of KITT, a superpowered, intelligent souped-up Pontiac Trans-Am.
Description: Star Frontiers is a space opera role-playing game that is set near the center of a spiral galaxy. A previously undiscovered quirk of the laws of physics allows starships to jump to "The Void," a hyperspatial realm that greatly shortens the travel times between inhabited worlds, once they reach 1% of the speed of light. Four races — Dralasite, Humans, Vrusk, and Yazirian — have independently discovered this way of travelling vast distances, and in "The Frontier Sector," they form the United Planetary Federation (UPF). A large number of the star systems shown on the map of the Frontier sector in the basic rule book are unexplored and undetailed, allowing the game master to put whatever they wish there.
Description: Twitty City was an entertainment complex in Hendersonville, Tennessee that was the home of country singer Conway Twitty from its opening in 1982 until his death in 1993. He built the country music entertainment complex, at a cost of over $3.5 million, which also homes on the property for Twitty's mother and his children. The complex was famous for its lavish Christmas decorations, meticulous landscaping, and expansive gardens. Twitty City remained a popular tourist stop throughout the '80s and into the early '90s, and was shut down in 1994 following a year-long tribute show called 'Final Touches.' The complex was eventually auctioned off and converted into a Christian music venue, which still operates as such today.
Description: The gang's all here. Celebrate the most tragic chapter in Antarctic Scientific Research history with this commemorative group photo of the team from Outpost 31, all of whom mysteriously disappeared in the winter of 1982, leaving but one survivor, a plucky husky/wolf cross called 'Jed'. Jed was of course famously adopted by then US President Ronald Reagan, who brought him to live at the White House from that point on. Alien conspiracy theories attached to a dramatic shift in White House policy shortly thereafter coinciding with Jed's sudden disappearance are completely untrue. Completely.
