Cherry Cards
Description: Ok, I know. It's not May. But this is the Southern hemisphere here where I am, and it is Spring time all the same. Darling buds of September just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it? I seem to be a tad obsessed with miniaturizing my little ones... perhaps there is a subliminal longing to keep them as small as possible as long as possible? I don't know, maybe it's just because it's really fun to do. As a child I loved stories like 'The Borrowers' and Charles Kingsley's "Waterbabies" ... The thought of little people was so fascinating. I wanted one!! A pet person to sit on my shoulder and talk to. I have ten now, totally worth it, only they're not this small. : )
Description: Taka Hime the Hawk Princess hawking became popular among the rising samurai class as well as among court nobles (kuge). At that time, the practice of hawking was a means of resolving struggles over land ownership among lords. Buddhist temples, who were also land owners, opposed falconry based on their ideology against killing. Falconer lords, on the other hand, devised a Buddhist rationale or resorted to Shinto justifications. Several falconry schools or styles (ryū) were formed in the process.
