Founded in 1920, Hayes built both highway and off-road trucks, particularly for the logging industry, and on a smaller scale, also manufactured buses. The Signal Company, then parent of Mack Trucks, acquired a controlling share in Hayes Manufacturing in 1969.
Description: North Wilkesboro Speedway is a short oval racetrack located on Route 421, 80 miles north of Charlotte. The speedway opened its doors on May 18, 1947, as a dirt track with the first official event promoted as a modified race, including heat races and a feature event. While an attendance of about 3,000 people was expected, a crowd in excess of 10,000 showed up to see one of the famous Flock brothers compete (and ultimately win the race). The track is just 5/8 of a mile around and features a unique uphill backstretch and downhill frontstretch that played into it's reputation as one of the fastest short-tracks of the '40s and '50s. The original dirt oval was paved in 1957 and continued to operate until the track's closure in 1996.

Description: Billie Joe "B.J." McKay was an owner-operator trucker who travels the country's highways in a red and white Kenworth K-100 Aerodyne with his pet chimpanzee, Bear. In the pilot movie, it is stated that he had spent two years in Vietnam as a medical helicopter pilot, had been a captain, and earned the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a prisoner of war at the Hanoi Hilton for four months in 1973 after his helicopter went down over the DMZ. Episodes typically deal with B.J. uncovering or getting mixed up with crime in the area he's traveling through, and a local resident — usually, a young, beautiful woman — appealing to him for help.

Description: It’s the logo Southern Californians can’t escape - a cartoon caricatures of three guys named Mark, Dan, and Wayne and the words “Western Truck Exchange,” placed on thousands of truck mudflaps in a city so dry that mudflaps are essentially unnecessary. Founded in 1922, the company's 'so bad it's good' logo was put into use back in 1982 and has been on the road ever since.
