Description: Lilith is a character in Jewish mythology found earliest in the Babylonian Talmud, and is generally thought to be related to a class of female demons. In Jewish folklore, Lilith was Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same earth as he was. Lilith abandoned both her husband and marriage after refusing to become subservient to Adam. She was subsequently cursed by God for her disobedience when she would not return to the Garden of Eden after an affair with the archangel, Samael.
Description: The Lilith Fair was a groundbreaking, all-female music festival and concert tour, co-founded by Sarah McLachlan in 1997, that showcased women artists and bands, creating a powerful cultural movement against industry sexism by proving female-led lineups could be hugely successful. Running from 1997-1999 (with a revival in 2010), it featured diverse talent like Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, The Chicks, and Brandi Carlile, raising millions for women's charities and fostering a unique atmosphere of community and empowerment in a male-dominated scene.
Description: Lilith was a goddess of love and fertility in ancient Babylon. She was Adam's first wife in earlier versions of the tale. She refused to be subservient to him and being an owl goddess, she sprouted wings and flew away. Because of this, god made her into the mother of demons. Some people think it was meant to be a cautionary tale to rebellious women. And for that reason, Lilith has become a symbol of feminism and the reclaiming of female power. What are your thoughts on feminism and the reclaiming of the Goddess?
