The Origin of Love is one of my favorite songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch (if not my favourite song ever). It tells the story of a soul split in two, forever searching for its missing half. I've always connected deeply to this not necessarily as a search for another person, but as a lifelong search for myself. So much of my work returns to fractured femininity, identity, and transformation. I don't believe we become someone new. I think we uncover the person who was always there beneath the expectations, the shame, and the roles we were taught to play.
