Description: In 1776, an American Quaker fell ill with a fever. Upon waking, the preacher formally known as Jemima Wilkinson claimed to have died and been reanimated as a genderless evangelist named the Public Universal Friend, and shunned both birth name and gendered pronouns. The Friend preached in androgynous clothes and founded a genderless community in New England, known as the Society of Universal Friends.
