Description: The 1982 World Rubik's Cube Championship was a competition for speedsolving the 3×3×3 Rubik's Cube that was held in Budapest, Hungary, on 5 June 1982 with contestants from 19 countries taking part. The cubes used in competition were selected by the Hungarian inventor of the Rubik's Cube, Ernő Rubik. The fastest solving time from three different cubes was taken as the competitor's score, and Minh Thai from the United States was the winner with the best time of 22.95. First prize was a gold-plated Rubik's Cube trophy. This meet was the first officially recognized competition of its kind with the next competition held in 2003 in Canada, though many differences to the structure and many other puzzles being added.
