Jon Pertwee was the third incarnation of the Doctor from 1970 to 1974. His first episode was also the first episode of Doctor Who in color. He dressed with frilly laces and colorful attire, which earned him the nickname of the Dandy Doctor (by the first Doctor during the 10th anniversary episode, The Three Doctors), but he was the first Doctor to really kick ass. He's often referred to by whovians as the first version of the Doctor that was something of a super hero because he knew martial arts and was more daring and adventurous than his predecessors. There's a lot of the 12th Doctor in Pertwee, or rather, a lot of the 3rd Doctor in Capaldi.
