Description: As you drive the Golden Circle from Reykjavik, one of the primary stopping points is Geysir, the geothermal area in the Haukadalur Valley. This image is of Strokkur, the largest of the geysers there. You don't have to wait long for it to erupt; every 8–10 minutes. When it does erupt, water is cast about 20 metres into the air, so it's quite the show. I was amazed at how close you are allowed to stand when it erupts, maybe only 6–7 metres away. My image captures the initial stage of the eruption, where the remarkable power is very evident.
