Lear Magnets
Description: To be, or not to be — but make it art. This brilliantly inventive mixed-media collage reimagines William Shakespeare, the greatest writer in the English language, through the irreverent lens of contemporary collage art. His iconic engraved portrait — all fine crosshatched lines and Elizabethan gravitas — is disrupted and elevated by bold geometric shapes in deep red, charcoal black, and warm terracotta, while a pair of oversized modern glasses sit squarely on the Bard's nose, asking the timeless question: what if Shakespeare were alive today?

Description: Shakespeare - Love's Labour's Lost is one of William Shakespeare's early comedies, it is believed to have been written in the mid 1590s for a performance at the Inns of Court before Queen Elizabeth I. Description: Shakespeare - "Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a thousand times, and now how abhorred in my imagination it is". This is the iconic monologue spoken by Hamlet in Act V, Scene I of William Shakespeare’s play, where he holds the skull of Yorick, the late King’s jester. Hamlet reminisces about Yorick’s vibrant personality and physical affection, before confronting the grotesque reality of decay, which serves as a meditation on mortality and the inevitability of death for all people, regardless of status.

It was built in 1599 at Southwark, close to the south bank of the Thames, by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men. It was destroyed by fire on the 29th of June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and stayed open until the London theatre closures of 1642. As well as plays by Shakespeare, early works by Ben Jonson, Thomas Dekker and John Fletcher were first performed here.
